Zoning appeals board OKs 38-story Gulch tower

In a unanimous vote, the Metro Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday approved Buckingham Cos.’ request for a special exception to allow its planned residential tower in the Gulch to rise 38 stories.

The Indianapolis-based developer overcame opposition from some residents of the nearby Icon in the Gulch condo tower. Their concerns included potential impact on sunlight to their courtyard swimming pool.

Condo market craves new downtown high-rise

With condos at the Gulch’s Twelve Twelve high-rise on track to sell out by year’s end, the $64 million question is where will new inventory come from in Nashville’s tight for-sale market.

Add the co-founder of Brentwood-based athletic sock company Swiftwick to developers pursuing boutique hotel projects near downtown Nashville.

Mark Cleveland, also chief executive of radio-controlled product company Hobby Express, is pursuing The ONE Nashville hotel.
