One of Nashville’s hottest policy debates — how to preserve and increase affordable housing — has reached the Metro Council.

A newly filed proposal to be taken up Tuesday would take the first step toward city requirements regarding affordability in housing developments across Davidson County.

At minimum, the bill calls for new “inclusionary zoning” to require that at least 14 percent of units be affordable in all new and renovated developments, as well as for properties converted from rental to for-purchase.
